About the building

100 Latrobe Terrace started life as a tea, cigarettes and sandwich shop frequented by the "trammies" (aka tram drivers) after pulling into the tram depot across the street (what is now Paddington Central).

The large brick building is about 100 years old and housed living quarters for the purveyors of the snack bar out the back.

Some of the structural walls were removed to make it a bit more diner-friendly and glimpses of the original brick and internal rendering give the restaurant a bit of nostalgic character to go with the food.

What’s with the name?

Way back when “tea” was the beverage of choice in Queensland, 'King Tea', was top of the pops. With the backing of the East India Trading Company, it was common to see the ‘King Tea’ logo painted boldly on building-fronts throughout the city of Brisbane, including ours.
